That is Dr. Takeshi Yamada (Coney Island celebrity, internationally famous rogue taxidermy artist, sculptor, painter, art teacher, author of 22 books, over 400 videos about him in youtube, over 600 fine art exhibitions internationally) and Seara (Sea Rabbit) of Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Takeshi Yamada and Seara (sea rabbit) are Coney Island celebrities. A documentary film about him and his sea rabbit is a part of the current international traveling exhibition entitled “Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids”, which was produced by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, New York. He is my favorite artist in New York.

The sea rabbit is closely related to the common sea dog and sea lion. A large population of sea rabbits used to live in North Eastern shores of the United States, especially in the shores of Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. The word “Coney” of “Coney Island” means “wild rabbit” in Dutch. The “wild rabbit” was originally referred to this beach-dwelling swimming rabbit-like animal by the early Dutch explores when they colonized this area (the larger area was officially named New Amsterdam – today’s New York) Sea rabbits were also referred mermaid rabbit, merrabbit, rabbit fish or seal rabbit in the natural history documents in the 17th century. The current conservation status (risk of extinction) of the sea rabbit is “Extinct in the Wild (EW) according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
